SAMMY…ADOPTED!!
Sammy is an affectionate and mellow 10-12 y.o. male dachshund/mix {mostly dachshund}, currently weighing about 19 pounds. Sammy is house trained, and is familiar w/ Doggy Door, YEAH!! He is able to jump up onto couch where he sleeps. He’s also very happy to go on walks. He came from a household of 4 dogs & a cat, so he’s quite comfortable w/ other animals. Sammy’s foster family has 2 other small dogs. Sammy is microchipped, and neutered. Being a senior dog, of course his favorite pastime is sleeping, and he certainly enjoys being right next to the human in the house. This senior companion would love to live out the rest of his days with a special somebody and a place to call home.
ROSIE (on the left)
This pretty dachshund, chihuahua, beagle mix girl is 10 months old, spayed, chipped and all vaccinations UTD, about 15 pounds. House-trained, uses the doggie door. Rosie is smart, inquisitive and playful, loves to spend time outside, chase rodents, run with the ATV, or ride along with you. Was obtained by NMDR from a shelter as a stray, along with her sister Sarah. The two dogs are close and will need to have another dog in their new home to play with or be adopted together. Rosie’s favorite place is on the couch or bed getting attention from her humans. Rosie does not resource guard her stuff and is submissive to other dogs and humans. Rosie’s ideal family would be an active one who will shower her with daily exercise, attention and playtime.
SARAH
You are not seeing double! Sarah Jessica Barker is Rosie’s sister. Very similar in personality and with a larger, longer 23 lb frame. Like two peas in a pod, Sarah and Rosie have spent their first 10 months together. Sarah is house-trained and uses the doggie door. This little girl is smart, inquisitive and playful. Like her sister Rosie, she loves to be outside, chase rodents, run with the ATV, or ride along with you. The girls are close and will need to have another dog in their new home to play with or be adopted together. LOUISE AKA LuLu ADOPTED!
Louise aka ‘Lou Lou’ the chiweenie was abandoned with Sarah, Rosie and a third sister. They were pulled from the shelter and off the euthanasia list by NMDR. LuLu was very pregnant when we took her into foster and has since had 7 beautiful puppies. Four boys and three girls. We think Louise is 2-3 years old and may be Rosie and Sarah’s mother. Unbelievable that she was able to carry 7 pups. She is a petite 10 pounds with a long dachshund body to carry all those babies. Lou Lou is a very sweet and submissive girl. She has been great with visitors, our cat and two small dogs. Such a smart girl, she potty trained herself in less than a week and happily uses the dog door. Louise will need time to build trust for leash walks and wearing a harness. She is also afraid to be picked-up, always asking for attention on her own terms. She has not shown any aggressive behavior and is still learning to trust humans. Despite her shyness, she is very affectionate and loves to get belly rubs.

Burt ADOPTED!
Louise gave birth to 7 little ones while in foster. Everyone is doing great and Louise has been a great mom. There are 4 boys and three girls. Three of the boys have been adopted.
8/7/2024 update. Lulu and all of her pups have gone home with their families. Burt is still hoping for his forever home.
Burty Boy is 8.5 weeks old. He is the sweetest snuggler and such a smart boy. He is fully pee pad trained and has been going out with his foster parents and adult dog siblings to play and go potty in the yard after eating. Burt has had his first round of vaccines and has an appointment for the next round. He is a stout, long and low little boy. The vet estimates 15lbs for his adult weight. Burt loves to play with our dachshund Spike. He loves his toys and playing a gentle game of tuggy. He is the sweetest baby who will give you lots of little kisses and love.
GIGI
Gigi is a sweet and playful 1 year old rat terrier x dachshund. She is a petite 10 pounds who has a big personality. Gigi loves to play fetch and play with toys. She is house trained, uses the dog door and is learning how to walk on a leash. She gets along with and plays with her foster mom’s two chiweenies. She prefers to be the boss and would do best with another submissive dog. Gigi’s dream family would be one who takes her for daily walks and has another doggie sibling for her to play with. She is very smart and treat motivated. With some time dedicated to training she will learn very quickly.
Gigi would do best in a home with adults and children over 10 years old.
BISKET Adopted!
Bisket is a 2 ½ year old, micro-chipped and neutered male who is up to date with all his shots and has a clean bill of health. This is one very happy dog! He is a Standard, Red Piebald Dachshund weighing in at about 20 lbs.
We have been fostering him for two weeks now, and he is very much a specimen of an active Dachshund. He is friendly around our office cat. We also have 2 Boxers, a Chihuahua, and another smaller Dachshund, who he has taken to right away. It’s quite a sight to see him playing with the Boxers, who adore him. We also have two goats, and he loves to go down to the corral and visit with them. No issues with them as well.
He walks well on a leash and marks every bush he can find. He runs in and out of our dog door like a champ and knows what it is for.
This young man is a people person and would do best in a forever home with a single person or family who are home a lot and want an errand/adventuring companion. Biskit is all dachshund, adopt him and he would love nothing more than to be your loyal shadow.
This handsome young man is a [about 1 y o] mixed breed dog, currently weighing in at 11 pds (as of 10-10-24). He’s still very much a “puppy” and would thrive, I believe, in the company of another dog. Punky came to us from Rio Rancho, brought in as a stray in mid-September. He is house trained, and has used the Doggy Door a few times. I had him sleeping in crate for the first 2 weeks (no accidents); now, he’s allowed to sleep on a blanket on the couch. There are 2 other dogs in my house, and he has learned how to get along w/ both of them.
I have a den which I keep gated from the rest of the house, that’s where Punky & another dog spend the night.
INTERACTIONS W/ DOGS, CATS, KIDS
As mentioned above, I have a 6 y o Chihuahua mix dog, and one other senior dachshund; the 3 of them have not displayed any aggression towards each other, and seem to get along quite well. I feed them in separate areas, so there’s no fighting over food.
Personality: Punky is happy on the couch, or a doggy bed which I have outside for nice weather. He is affectionate, enjoys being petted, ear rubs, occasional snacks (doggy crackers). He does not have an excessive barking habit. He does have some athleticism and can jump over the doggy gate in my house but not enough to get over the block wall of my yard, so no escapes.
Daily schedule / sleeping / bathroom schedule: I let all 3 dogs outdoors about 6:30 – 7 AM every day, and each dog is consistently good / bathroom tasks outside, first thing the morning. Breakfast comes next, which he eats very well. Punky has been consistently good at being left alone while I’m gone (4 mornings per week, 3-4 hours each day). He seems content being left on the couch, and occasionally in the crate. Supper is about 5 PM. Bed time / last potty trip outside is about 11 PM each day, and so far, there have been no accidents in the house.
Training: I believe Punky has had no training of any kind, I’m trying to help him learn sit, and NO.
General traits:
• He is happy being next to a human body.
• He is not a problematic barker.
• He does enjoy doggy treats / crackers.
• He is a young dog, sweet temperament, eager to please, leash trained and loves to go for walks.
Medical Information:
Punky received the following vaccinations 9/16/24: Canine DA2PP & Canine Bordetella; 10/10/24: Heart Work Test (negative) Microchip, & Rabies vaccination.
